Lessons & Assignments Thursday, August 27th

Language Arts - Study - We completed our DOL and grammar page in class today.  We also took a practice vocabulary test, and practiced alphabetizing our spelling words in class.  Students first worked with word cards in groups, then transferred information to their papers.  We reread our weekly story to prepare for tomorrow's test, and read about what it takes to be a good citizen.  We wrote about how the main character in our weekly story was a good citizen as we practiced making connections across two texts.  Tomorrow we will take our first spelling, vocabulary, and reading test for the year.

Math - None - We started lesson 1.5 today on using addition properties to add.  We practiced identifying digits in the ones column that would make a ten in order to build speed and fluency when adding more than 2 addends.  We will continue this lesson tomorrow.

Science - None - Since we have finished our first chapter, we played a review game in class today.  The students enjoyed learning what that basketball hoop in the classroom was for!  Tomorrow we will take our first open book science test.

Social Studies - None - We read about communities today, and practiced describing our community.  We talked about our planet, hemisphere, continent, country, state, county, town, and address.  Most of the class members did not know their home addresses.  This would be a great skill to practice at home by having your child write return addresses on your mail.

Reminder:  book orders due tomorrow
