Last Day of School

We had an amazing last day of school today with our field day!  Although the class spent most of their day with other teachers, I did get to see them before the day was over.  Thank you for sharing your kids with me this year.  I'm always anxious to have some extra time with my family when the school year wraps up, but sad to say good-bye to the kids I've watched grow and learn.
I hope you have a wonderful summer!

Distance & Speed

Today in science we read about distance and speed.  We learned that two things might go the same speed, but can stop at different distances.  We also learned that we can go the same distance, but move at different speeds.  We discussed how to measure with a clock and with rulers.  To test these concepts out, students had to work in teams to record the time it took to walk down the hall, and compare it to the time it took to crawl down the hall.

Lessons & Assignments Wednesday, May 11th

Language Arts - read passage, read AR book - We completed our DOL, spelling, and grammar page in class today.  We also reread our selection story.  Mrs. Pratt's small groups worked on grammar review skills, and my groups worked on our leveled readers.  This week's leveled reader was a play, and the kids did a great job reading their parts.  Friday is the last day to take AR quizzes, so reading an AR book is homework tonight.  Please complete and sign the form tonight.  We will fill in the quiz score tomorrow morning.

Science - None - We read about types of motion today, then went outside to try them out!

Social Studies - None - We finished watching our field trip presentation videos today.

Force & Motion

We started our final chapter on force and motion today in science.  We read about different types of motions (back & forth, zig-zag, straight line, fast motion, slow motion), then headed outside to try them out!  The students had to work with a partner to demonstrate a motion while their partners recorded it on the iPads.  We came back inside to show our videos and explain the motions we demonstrated.

Triangles

We learned all about triangles today!  Although the students are already familiar with triangles, today we learned that they can be classified by the number of equal sides, and the measure of their angles.  To practice this idea, we used spaghetti noodles and marshmallows to build triangles.  We discovered that if 2 noodles were shorter than the 3rd noodle, we couldn't make a triangle.
